How Erasmus+ lets you travel across Europe without draining your bank account.
You want to explore Europe but your wallet said “be serious”
Flights are expensive. Hostels cost more than you thought. Food, transport, museum tickets, and that one iced coffee you didn’t need but bought anyway — it all adds up.
That’s where Erasmus+ youth exchanges come in.
What if we told you there’s a way to travel to another country, join a 7 to 10 day learning program, meet new people, and have your flights, food, and stay fully covered?
Sounds fake. But it is very real. Funded by the EU. And open to anyone between 13 and 30.

What Erasmus+ actually pays for
If you get accepted into a youth exchange, here’s what you do not need to worry about:
Flights (up to a budget based on distance)
Accommodation (shared rooms, usually in a hostel or group house)
Three meals a day (plus snacks and coffee breaks)
Workshops, materials, and local transport
Insurance and support from trained facilitators
Sometimes you might be asked to cover a small participation fee. Usually around 30 to 50 euros. That’s it.
Compare that to a week-long trip on your own and this is almost suspiciously affordable.
So what’s the catch?
There isn’t one. But here’s what you should know:
You need to actively participate. This is not a free vacation.
You won’t be staying in luxury. It is simple, comfortable, and shared.
You’ll be expected to be present, respectful, and involved in the program.
In return, you get an experience that’s more valuable than most tourist trips. And you meet people from countries you might never have visited otherwise.
You don’t need money. You need motivation
You do not need savings, a job, or a rich family. You need curiosity, basic communication skills, and the courage to apply.
"I had 40 euros in my bank account when I applied. Two months later I was in Portugal, learning about inclusion and sharing a room with someone from Finland."— Participant, 21, Bulgaria
